What this site is
The Vienna School is an independent history of how skin disease was pictured and taught in nineteenth-century Vienna. It follows four things: the reclassification of the subject on pathological anatomy at the Allgemeines Krankenhaus, the atlas that carried the argument outward in fascicles, the lithographic trade that printed and coloured the plates, and the wax casts held at the Josephinum.
The site is written as history. Conditions are named as the period named them, and historical practice is described as historical practice. There is no clinical guidance here of any kind, and no images of patients or of disease.
Every claim on the site is attached to a named person, a dated publication, an institution or a catalogue record. Where the historical record is thin, the page says less rather than more.
